OPETH Mainman Ready To Rock The Boat
January 10, 2008OPETH mainman Mikael Åkerfeldt has issued the following update:
"Yes, as some of you might know, OPETH is doing a pretty rare gig on the 8th of March. A big fucking boat will be crossing the Nordic sea in the middle of the night and onboard you'll hear... some Swedish fucking prog whatever bollocks death type...music! The Mellotronen store has now closed down but you can reach them through their website at www.mellotronen.com and read the blog about this event at www.mellotronen.blogspot.com. You can also see the concert poster artwork, done by Roger Wooton and Glen Goring from COMUS. For me, this is insanely awesome that they've created this one especially for this event.
"This gig will be our warm-up for the coming UK and US tour and we are most likely to premier a new song on there and a few ol' tunes. On top of that COMUS are playing (for the first time since 1972),KATATONIA, LEAFHOUND, ANEKDOTEN, the legendary Bo Hansson and many more. There are some planned secret appearances that I can't really speak of but they will become legendary, no question about it!
"It will be a nice trip, I'm sure — lots of talk about obscure bands, lots of drinking, gambling (not me...) and stuff like that. Maybe some of you will get lucky?! I'll be nervous but it'll be awesome. Hope to see some of you there. I don't know how big the capacity of this boat is but I certainly advice you guys to check out the availability of the tickets well in advance as this is a one-time only happening.
"Anything else... Hmmmm... let's see... Oh... of course... the album is done, mixed and all. I'm listening to it right now! I want to boast, but I'll keep it together and do it later instead."
OPETH's follow-up to 2005's "Ghost Reveries" is tentatively due in the spring via Roadrunner Records.
OPETH's "The Roundhouse Tapes" high-definition-filmed DVD has had its projected release date pushed back to September 2008 from the previously announced early 2008. This will also feature lots of fan interviews, band interviews, soundcheck footage and live photos, along with exclusive menu music written by mainman Mikael Åkerfeldt and keyboardist Per Wiberg.
OPETH's "The Roundhouse Tapes" double CD has sold 2,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The set contains "a captivating OPETH performance from the Camden Roundhouse, London, UK, on November 9, 2006, and sees the band in scintillating form churning out a selection of classics from their illustrious career," according to a press release.
The band will take part in DREAM THEATER's "Progressive Nation" in the spring, a package tour that will also feature the talents of 3 and BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME.
"Ghost Reveries" has sold around 90,000 copies in the United States since its 2005 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
